The ‘FOAMHAND’ name derives from a very simple yet highly effective solution introduced by one of our founding members during the London 2012 Olympics. In the year leading up to the Games there were over 15 test events at the Olympic Park. The walking route from the main transport hub, Stratford Station was through the recently completed Westfield shopping complex, the largest shopping centre in Europe. The centre received over 100,000 visitors per day. Spectators going to the test events found it difficult to navigate through the shopping centre and limited signage got lost amongst all the commercial advertising.

Paul, our COO’s solution was to equip all the stewards and volunteers with foam hands to help signal directions to spectators. The foam hands first appeared on the ‘Last Mile’ at the Goalball test event and were an instant hit and easily identifiable in large crowds. Come games time over 10,000 foam hands were ordered and distributed with great effect to the Last Mile workforce across all venues. This is just one example of the type of innovation and pragmatism that FOAMHAND consultants bring to a team. Since then, this simple solution has become common place at major events and FOAMHAND went on to form a truly world class team, capable of delivering event planning and crowd management planning consultancy across the globe on major global events such as Glasgow 2014, Rugby World Cup England 2015, Rio Olympics 2016 and London’s IAAF 2017 World Championships.

Here at FOAMHAND we pride ourselves on innovative and creative solutions to problems and the foam hand story is a real example of this. What it also demonstrates is a simple, cost effective solution, that is drawn on years of experience across our team. This is why FOAMHAND continues to deliver to major global events, with current contracts including Gold Coast Commonwealth Games 2018 and Pyeongchang Winter Olympics 2018. FOAMHAND’s capacity now spans several key areas of event preparedness including; operational design, crowd management planning, operational readiness, integrated event management and operational event delivery.
